Artists are housed in the Historic Charles Over Mansion and in some of the homes in the neighborhood when the enrollment is high. Most participants will be lodged with a roommate in the rooms with twin beds created in the newly renovated areas of the property.
Breakfast and lunch are provided for workshop participants and there are many options available for dinner within walking distance of the mansion.
Please fill out the Meals Questionnaire if you have certain dietary or personal restrictions.
Arrival/Departure: Please plan to arrive before 8:00 P.M. on the Sunday prior to your workshop and depart no later than noon the Saturday following.
Getting to NALPA
- Muncie is between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne west of Interstate 69. The address for you GPS is 825 East Washington Street, Muncie, Indiana 47305. There is plenty of parking for participants for those who are driving.
- It is recommended that you fly into Indianapolis Airport (IND). Flights should be scheduled to arrive before 6:00 the Sunday evening prior to your workshop and to depart after 8:00 AM the Saturday following the workshop. A shuttle service will be provided to those participants traveling by plane
- The bus station is three blocks from the Charles Over Mansion.
Tuition and Refunds
All non-refundable deposits for workshops are non-refundable and tuition in full is due prior to the start of each workshop. Refunds are granted only in the even a participant has to leave the workshop for health reasons or a family emergency.
Generally participants are required to be 18 years of age and older for all workshops other than our community youth programming. Exceptions are made for the mature, the self-motivated and passionate students who are younger. To seek permission if you are underage please email jonathan@theNALPA.com
What to Bring
Participants will need appropriate clothing for studio work. Each instructor will provide more specifics as concerns the individual workshops.
Participants are asked to bring a towel and washcloth.
Summers in Indiana can resemble a bowel of soup. Be prepared for the humidity and frequent thunderstorms.
On Wednesday’s after dinner there will be a roundtable discussion with the artistic director of NALPA, the teaching artists and the participants concerning teaching methods and basic principles in an effort to fulfill the labs mission to help further understanding of basic principles underlying the creation and performance of artistic works.
These discussions will be recorded and archived.
Any workshop or residency that involves the development of new work will present early on the Friday evening of the week in the studio space at Muncie Civic Theatre for the general public. This event is part of the Labs community outreach and partnership with the local civic theatre and the opportunity for artists to show work to a lay audience and get feed back following the presentations.
The Charles Over mansion is within walking distance of Downtown Muncie where there are a variety of decent restaurants, sandwich shops and excellent beer bars.
There is a fully equipped gym in the basement participants are welcome to use.
There is a nice hot tub on the premises to relax in.
For walking, biking and running the Mansion is two blocks from the Cardinal
Greenway. The Cardinal Greenway, the longest rail-trail in Indiana, stretches more
than 60 miles from Marion to Richmond along a former CSX railroad corridor.
